P.R.F Committees

Board of Directors

This 20-member panel serves primarily to oversee the financial aspects of the organization. The Executive Committee consists of the Board President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, and chairs of the Grant and Gala Committees. The Board meets three times per year, on the second Tuesday of April, July, and November. Reports are presented by the Gala and Grant committee Chairs. The Board is also updated on any new or existing fund raising events, done by individuals or groups on behalf of the Fund. All members have strong backgrounds in either medicine, finance, communications, or their life has been touched by breast cancer. They come from Forrest, Lamar, and Jones Counties. It is the goal of the Board to gradually add one member from each of the 17 counties served by the Fund.

Gala Committee

These eleven dedicated volunteers are responsible for producing the annual “PINK!” Cocktail Party Gala, which is usually held in September or October (dates contingent on USM home games). Each member serves on a sub-committee: 1) Communications & Marketing; 2) Sponsor Solicitation; 3) Site Coordination, Food, Program & Entertainment; 4) Invitations, Graphic Design, Tickets & Mailing; 5) Raffles. Each sub-committee meets as needed, and the full committee begins meeting monthly in January, and hold a wrap-up meeting a week after the Gala. All financial records and transactions are done through the P.R.F. Treasurer.

Golf Committee

Since 2005, The Canebrake Ladies’ Golf Association has produced an annual all-women’s tournament called “Teeing Off in the Pink” which has raised tens of thousands for P.R.F.. The Golf tournament takes place on the Monday following the Gala at the Canebrake golf course. women from as far away as Natchez, Mobile, and Louisiana come to enjoy this all-day outing, capped off with a wonderful cocktail party.

Grant Committee

This five-woman team includes three breast cancer survivors and the two co-founders of P.R.F. .They meet twice monthly on the second and fourth Wednesday – and more often if the volume of requests warrants extra attention. They review each application, assign it a case number and pay bills for patients in need according to strict guidelines, insuring that every patient gets fair and equitable attention. The guidelines are revisited twice annually in January and July, to be adjusted is new needs or special situations warrant alterations or additions. Applicants who qualify for the federal BCC (Breast & Cervical Cancer) Program are referred to that resource. They do not pay household expenses, because there are other agencies, churches, etc… which assist with these, and the Fund doesn’t want to duplicate existing programs.

A new sub-committee of the Grant Committee is the outreach program called “Silhouettes.” These volunteers seek women’s groups – especially those in under-served rural areas – and present a program about healthy lifestyle, symptoms of breast cancer, and, most significantly, where to get diagnostic treatment and financial assistance. They also give each attendee a pair of “Bosom Buddies” bookmarks, as reminders to do their monthly breast self exams.
